Arbeiten von Michael Saelzer

Michael Sälzer works with stoneware glazes made from plant ashes, powdered minerals and rare clays, applying them by brush and spray gun and firing his work in a wood-fired kiln of his own design.

A salt glaze is achieved by introducing a range of sodium compounds - common salt, soda or a caustic soda solution - into the wood combustion chamber at a temperature of 1300ºC.

By a skilful “managing happenstance”, Michael Sälzer achieves ceramic surfaces that are characterised by fly ash, flame effects and the orange peeling typical of salt firing.
