Back from China
We are especially pleased to have been invited as “Artists in Residency” to Fuping, China in May 2008.
The concept for Fuping is to select internationally recognized - in particular young - ceramic artists (nominated by experts in the field),
invite them to China for 4 weeks and provide them with an optimal artistic working environment, including free board,
lodging and wide-ranging support. All materials are provided free of charge, as is technological support, such as kiln and firing assistance.
The pieces of work created by the artists during their residency are housed in a museum – the ceremonial opening exhibition
is documented in a catalogue – built specifically for each participating nation. The Chinese organisers plan to select works created
in Fuping for a touring exhibition for an international audience. The participating artists are recognised as founding members of
the project and have the opportunity to return to Fuping for further residencies at any time. The construction of a number of
the museums started in 2004: The structures for France, Scandinavia, the USA and Canada have been completed and opened.
The opening of Italian and German museums is planned for the near future
The artists nominated for the German contingent predominantly belong to a younger generation of ceramicists, representing a
wide range of artistic directions. The spectrum of their work ranges from highly skilled specialisation in form and decoration,
sculptural works, and space-dominating objects/installations to architectural ceramics. Some of the participants hold lecture chairs,
most have jury experience, all work independently in their own studios and enjoy recognition in expert and professional circles.
Six come from the Rhineland-Palatinate and are either State Prize winners and/or Westerwald Prize winners.
FLICAM is without question one of the most interesting projects in the field of international artistic co-operation.
